Vimeo Announces its Slate of Exclusive Films from Toronto International Film Festival®

Thirteen films from the 2013 Festival to make exclusive digital debut on Vimeo On Demand

Today, Vimeo unveiled thirteen films making their digital debut in 2014 exclusively on Vimeo On Demand after premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival. Demonstrating its commitment to empowering all creators, in September Vimeo announced a first-of-its-kind open offer of financial support to all the Festival’s world premiere films for an exclusive digital distribution debut via Vimeo On Demand.
“Vimeo is the quality open platform for creators to distribute directly to their audiences,” said Vimeo CEO, Kerry Trainor. “The breadth of subjects and number of countries represented by these accomplished filmmakers shows just how powerful the direct distribution movement is becoming worldwide.”
The movies cover a range of topics, from a comedy set in the ex-pat area in Beijing (This is Sanlitun) to how day-to-day life can make us lose sight of the big picture (The Animal Project). The collection features a number of award-winning filmmakers from the around the world, including two-time Sundance winner Alexandre Rockwell, along with Shayne Ehman and Seth Scriver, winners of the Festival’s Best Canadian First Feature Award.
The full list of Festival films premiering on Vimeo On Demand in 2014 includes:
  • Asphalt Watches, directed by Shayne Ehman and Seth Scriver

Viewers will be able to access the films by purchasing them directly from Vimeo On Demand or from the embed Vimeo player wherever the trailer is hosted. Once purchased, viewers can watch the film immediately or anytime within the specified viewing period on their desktop or any smartphone, TV, and other connected devices with the Vimeo app.
Since its launch in March 2013, Vimeo On Demand has grown to a global catalog of over 5,000 films covering a wide range of genres. The platform provides filmmakers with unprecedented control and flexibility, allowing them to set price, viewing format (stream or download), and geographical availability while allowing the creator to retain full ownership of the film. Earlier this month Vimeo also added in-player transaction support that allows any Vimeo PRO member to sell their work on their own sites or across the web. In addition, filmmakers have access to Vimeo’s built-in audience of over 149 million monthly unique visitors across the full spectrum of connected devices, including desktop, phone, tablet, connected TV and game consoles, all in beautiful HD quality.
